Quilting for God
"It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." -- Mark 4:31-32
The seed that was planted began with a sermon in the spring of 2011 about the importance of adults connecting with our youth and helping them grow in their faith. That sermon inspired our members to create a quilt with special meaning to give to each of our new confirmands.
Since then, the TLC Quilters have grown to include over 65 active members who serve in over 30 different ministry opportunities that allow us to share God's love and comfort around the world. Last year alone over 1,500 quilts were distributed to people of all ages. "Comfort, comfort my people" Isaiah 40:1 is embroidered on the back of each of these quilts and that is our mission, to bring God's comfort to others.
As the TLC Quilters travel on this “Journey of Faith”, we are witnessing branches reaching out not only to the children in our community but also to people across the country who participate in our mission by sewing, knitting, and crocheting items for us. God is also working through us to share this mission with other churches who are now beginning similar missions in their communities. We are witnessing firsthand the power and love that God has for us.
